Political Communication Skills Training/2

Facing Challenges in Debating

17 – 19 November, 2016 in Bratislava, Slovakia

with the cooperation of Hanns-Seidel-Stiftung Bratislava

The Robert Schuman Institute organized a new training series in partnership with the Hanns-Seidel-Stiftung for young first-time elected politicians on the municipal level who want to improve their communication skills. We could welcome 19 participants from V4 EPP sister parties from Czechia, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia.

The first part of the series entitled “Preparing for Public Speaking and Addressing the Media” took place in Budapest between 13-15 October. The group had several opportunities to improve the verbal and non-verbal communication skills by public presentation practices, simulation of typical scenarios in political meetings and camera exercises. At the same time they learned about responding to problematic situations and behaviour as well as effective message formulation and delivery.

The second meeting was organized in Bratislava, Slovakia between 17-19 November. Apart from intensive debate exercises, the participants learned about the elements of classical rhetoric and practice speech construction, making and handling interruptions as well as preparing for different kinds of presentations.
