Amid struggling to deal with the disruption of our work and private lives due to the coronavirus pandemic, limiting social contact or self-isolating in order to halt the virus spread can become quite an ordeal for many of us. However, physical distancing should not equate social isolation. With this purpose in mind we are launching our RSI StayOn initiative –  a series of online talks led by our volunteer experts and partners you may know from regular RSI seminars, touching on the variety of issues of current common concern: long- and short-term political, social, economic and geostrategic effects of this global pandemic. We invite everyone interested to reflect and exchange views with regard to these matters during our 40-minute online meetings on ZOOM platform https://zoom.us/

Our first talk is scheduled for Monday 17h CET (23 March 2020) and will cover possible economic and political impact of the coronavirus pandemia on the EU policies for Eastern Partnership. Can the EU be expected to turn more inwards? What about the impact on EaP countries of already limited resilience? How can the daily practical job of reform and assistance be done under the present limiting work regimes?

Our invited pundit Balázs Jarábik has 20 years of experience of managing large scale governance projects in his native Slovakia, the Balkans and Eastern Europe. Currently he is the Head of Political, Analysis and Coordination Department at the EU Advisory Mission (EUAM) in Kyiv focusing on reform of the security sector in Ukraine. He joined the Slovak Foreign Service during the summer of 2019 to be seconded to EUAM. Previously he was a scholar at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, where his research focuses on the political economy and societies of Eastern and Central Europe. He managed Carnegie`s award-winning „Reforming Ukraine” project providing rigorous monitoring of the reform process between 2014-2018. He also consulted Ukraine’s governmental institutions to implement the Association Agreement with the European Union as a short-term expert of the EU funded Association 4U project in 2017-2018. Between 2006 and 2012 Balazs was based in Kyiv, where he oversaw the growth of the US NGO Pact to the largest democracy assistance organizations in Eastern Europe. He conducted evaluations and research for, among others, the American Bar Association, European Parliament, Open Society Foundations and UNDP.
