European Green Deal perspectives in the new geopolitical reality

European Green Deal perspectives in the new geopolitical reality

****

What does the ongoing crisis in Ukraine mean for the EU energy sector and how will it impact the European “green” agenda? The continent’s energy market can manage short-term supply disruptions, but is there a possibility for Europe to decrease its dependency on Russian oil and gas in the long-term perspective through implementation of the European Green Deal?

****

Despite the expansion of the renewable energy in the past two decades, the EU is still heavily dependent on the Russian fossil fuels. Would Kremlin’s possible restrictions on energy supplies against the backdrop of the ongoing crisis in Ukraine push Europe towards energy independence and speed up decarbonization?

Lets meet up to reflect on these and more next Thursday, March 3, 2022 at 17.00 CET in our virtual space on Zoom.
