How to live with Putin’s Russia?

How to live with Putin’s Russia?

****

Russia’s invasion in Ukraine raises profound questions about the future of the relationship between Kremlin and the EU, and will have enormous impact on both sides’ economic, energy and foreign policies.

Despite numerous warning signs, many found themselves in shock when Russian moved its troops into Ukraine. Although it is difficult to make any forecasts at this point, and predict how the conflict will end, this war will most certainly bring far-reaching consequences for the international  political landscape and the relations between global players.

The EU leadership has been trying hard to find diplomatic solutions to the crisis and mitigate damages. However, when these attempts failed, the EU adopted a series of sanctions against Russia, including targeted individual, economic and financial sanctions and trade restrictions, and continues to prepare a further package in coordination with its international partners. Some fear that Kremlin might introduce counter-sanctions halting fossil fuel supplies to Europe which, despite its reemphasized pivot towards green energy revolution, still remains heavily dependent particularly on Russian natural gas.

Is there a way out of this standoff? How should the EU shape its foreign policy on Russia from now on, and what’s the future of this relationship?
